Anime Weekend Atlanta XIII

By Ace | October 5, 2007

Left Friday morning at 6AM with 5 others in two vehicles, returned around midnight late Sunday night. We were all exhausted, and ready for our own beds, but we were already missing it as soon as we pulled out of the parking garage.

This was not my first time at AWA, I had attended last year, but I can say that this year was much much more fun than last year. It could’ve been the people that were around me (last year I was pretty much by myself since my best friend met up with his soon to be girlfriend and they went off to do god knows what). Some highlights for me for this year were:

Meeting Monica Rial and Colleen Clinkenbeard
What can I say? I’m a Kiddy Grade fanboy. My goal for this trip was to get my boxset signed by Eclair and Lumiere and I accomplished that. Both of them (as well as the other VAs) were super nice and some of the coolest people I have met. Just for the record, Monica is so sweet that she can make anyone bubbly. I had a bout of fanboy-ism because of her when I got back to the room. That’s one thing I hardly ever do in front of other people, because in the worse scenarios, I become worse than a fangirl on crack. I was kind of hoping to meet up with Monica again just so I could let her know that she was the main highlight of the whole trip for me, but alas, I never got to. Oh well, maybe they’ll be back next year.

Spending more money than I should have
All in all, I spent a lot more money than I should have, but I came back with 8 new DVDs, 2 manga volumes I had been searching for forever, 2 t-shirts, some patches, and an adorable Yomiko Readman bookmark from Chibi Town. All in all, it was worth every penny, my only read regret is that I wish I had had more money.

Cosplay
God knows, I’m a huge fan of a good cosplay, so much so that I wish I could afford to do my own, but alas, I am but a poor college student. Unfortunately, this year it seemed there was a lack in good cosplay. No offense to anyone out there, maybe I just didn’t see you, but nothing in particular stood out to me. Biggest thing I had was, due to the “Gothic” theme this year there were waaaaay too many Death Note people running around. And as per usual, I think I saw about 50 to 100 Narutos, doppleganger much?

Overall Effect
I ended up missing a lot of the events I wanted to see for various reasons, and a lot of my time was personally spent just wandering around, meeting people, and just seeing the overall “brotherhood” that had formed around the media that I myself love. It leaves a good feeling all in all, and I plan to attend next year.
