Ah, Young Love~

EDIT: Now that I’ve watched the entire series, I realize how amusingly ironic this post was. Can’t say I was disappointed though.
You know, at first I wasn’t going to post about this. I knew it was getting attention on several other blogs (now that I’ve actually gone looking for it) and assumed everyone was probably sick of hearing about it. I’m not quite sure how this managed to slip under my radar when the season started, but I happened to notice the final episode out earlier this evening. Something about it caught my eye, so I figured “What the hey?” and grabbed the entire thing on a whim. I’m so glad I did. What am I talking about?
School Days came along at just the right time for me. I’ve been needing a new romance title to follow along with (I’ve been sadly devoid of such since Shuffle ended waaaay back in… 06?) and this seems to fit the bill fairly well. Unfortunately I don’t have many screenshots since like I said, this is just me posting on a whim of sorts, so with that in mind bear with me.
One thing that has surprised me so far is how far this series goes. Its not your typical, run-of-the-mill high school romance story like I was expecting. I’m only on episode 4 and that is already very apparent. It almost has a gritty, realistic feel to it, and I really like that.
Quick Character Introductions
I’ll only be touching on the leads today. I’ll definitely be revisiting this series once I have more time on my hands.
Itou Makoto - The shy, quiet, perverted guy. He’s what I would refer to as the “true” lead of the story since it starts with his almost stalker like obsession of this girl that by chance rides the bus with him, Katsura Kotonoha. Without getting into too much detail about this, thanks to the girl that sits beside him in class, these two end up dating by the end of the first episode. Twist is (even though its never said outloud) this girl likes him too, setting this up to be an interesting “harem” type from the get go.
Katsura Kotonoha - Shy and quiet herself, she is a very delicate girl who has little to no experience with boys. This becomes more apparent as time goes on as well and their relationship begins to progress. All I can really say about her so far is this, nearly everytime she’s on the screen I’m either really depressed or have a moe fit. Yes, she’s that cute.
Saionji Sekai - The oddball of the three, a very outgoing individual who keeps her true feelings for Itou bottled up inside. She is the mastermind behind Makoto and Kotonoha’s relationship, even though its fairly apparent she is in love with him herself. Her character is what seems to give this a new spin on the “harem” style of anime and also what possibly makes this series stand out to me. Though, you can’t help but feel sorry for the girl.
After watching the first 4 episodes, so far I give it a 7/10. The rating will go up if it develops further, and down if it just kind of peters off after a potentially interesting start. I may delete this post once I actually have time to sit down and cap some things plus introduce some more of the characters.
