Otome wa Boku ni Koishiteru ~Afterthoughts~

By Ace | January 17, 2007

First impression:

Thinking back to when I first started watching this, I must say its much different than I thought it would be. My initial impression was that it would be another silly romance/comedy where the guy would get found out by multiple girls and then “blackmailed” into being their love slave. Boy, was I way off the mark.

Basic Synopsis:

At the beginning, all you really learn is that Muziho’s grandfather just died, and his grandfather’s final wish was for him to attend an all-girls private school. This leads to him getting help from his childhood friend (who ironically enough, attends the same school, imagine that) Mariya. This is where I began to assume what would happen, because this seemed a bit stereotypical to me personally.

The first episode after this, consists of him trying to adapt to being a girl, and creates for some very interesting comedic happenings.

Well, through various means and reasons, this boy disguised as a girl becomes the school elder and essentially the most popular person in the school. This creates a lot of friction between him and the class president who would’ve probably become the elder by default if he hadn’t. About this time, the series turns to filler fluff (I mean come on, an entire episode about a hair ribbon) but then it gets back to the real plot around episode 10.

Well, to keep from rambling and boring you much more, you feel a lot of tension between Mizuho and several other members of the cast, and it does in a sense become a harem anime by the end, but not in the typical idea of the genre. I’ll not say any more, to keep from spoiling the end.

My thoughts:

In the end, I felt that this series lacked something. While it has the light feeling that I tend to keep around me each season in at least one series, there were a lot of questions left unanswered. Overall, I’d say this is a definite watch anime. Would I buy the DVDs? Probably not (unless a thin-pack version is released for a good price).
